Ligaria is the name of the beach east of Agia Pelagia, approximately 22 kilometers from Iraklion.
Ligaria started as a residential area comprising of summer houses built mainly by residents of Iraklion. Currently it has a couple of small taverns, hotels and cafes by the beach.
Due to its proximity to Iraklion it is very popular with people who live in Iraklion (or close to it) and want to have a quick swim to a location close by.
It is also very popular with the residents of the villages built in the mountains overlooking the beach.
