I think I know the one you refer to. If it is the one I am thinking of then all the script is in Greek and last time I looked I couldn't make out what it commemorated. The (new) Preveli memorial was inspired by the involvement of the then Abbbot, Abbot Lagouvardas, who, working with a Commander Francis Pool RNR, the monks and others, organised the hiding and eventual evacuation of allied troops, and some Greeks, by the submarines HMS Thrasher and Torbay from Preveli beach in 1941 (I think!)One of the escapees was Australian veteran Geoff Edwards who later showed his appreciation in a number of ways.(Geoff later owned a chunk of land in Australia which he called Prevelly and is now perhaps best known as a surfing resort)Geoff's last wish was for a memorial at Preveli. I am not aware of any direct connection between the Saktouria area and the evacuations at Preveli, though no doubt some of the escapees were at some time in hiding in the Saktouria area. During the occupation beaches near Saktouria were used for infiltrations etc by SOE, indeed Kriepe was initially due to leave from there I believe. A little above Melambes, north of the Kedros mountains is the Amari plain where a number of villages suffered greatly. I wonder if the monument you mention might be commemorating some part in those events. As far as I recall it is a relatively modern, i.e. post WW2, structure. I must take a closer look next time I'm in the area. If anyone has any other ideas about it, I too would be pleased to hear them.
