- standard UK fittings are metric, and taps are usually much more expensive than the ones you get in Crete. Most fittings in Crete that we saw and bought were from Germany, and the same stuff at Homebase and similar prices were about 50% more. I once brought a slim-line water-saver toilet cistern from Germany to England, and as the German fittings are Imperial (!!!) and the UK ones metric, the adaptor I needed cost more than the cistern.
