Kaliviani
The beautiful village of Kaliviani is located in the beginning of the peninsula of Gramvoussa. Houses built of stone and flowers blossoming in every yard, people friendly and hospitable.
The tradition is alive in Kaliviani, since even today the houses are built the traditional way, with stones, by skillful technicians.

The village was the birthplace of the important Cretan revolutioner, Emmanuel Diktakis, who in 1840 organized the revolution against the Turks in Apokorona, where he was slaughtered by the Turks.

A story about a shipwreck

At the exit of the village on the road to Balos, there is a motor ship shipwrecked on the beach.
In accordance with the locals during a great storm, 10-12 years ago, a Lebanian ship had to moor near the shore due to an engine failure .
The ship went astray when its cables cut, and can be seen today lying on the shore.
