RE:Railway on Crete - was there ever such?
by "lesley" on Sat Mar 31 19:01:19 2007

There was a train carriage and and pieces of rail in a garden in Kokkino Horio, some of the rail was holding up a pergola. These were "liberated" from a German gun site to the east of the village in 1945.
I've also read or heard of a rail track of 11 km serving a quarry site near Irakleon, carrying stone.
Someone I know has a piece of railtrack from a stone quarry near Georgiopolis which is used in his workshop as a metalwork anvil.
